Dear Freedom Champions,
What an interesting coincidence! Mont Pelerin Society was established in 1947, in the same year in which India gained its independence! At the Centre for Civil Society, we remind our fellow citizens that independence is not the same as freedom, as often has happened, only the rulers’ skin colour changes. Our slogan has been, From Independence to Freedom! India must continue to fight for her economic and personal freedom.
What has been true for India has been very much true for the Global South, the 6 billion. And that is the theme of the General Meeting, Freedom & Prosperity for the Next 6 Billion. Actually, the recent political and economic development has put freedom and prosperity of the Global North also in question. The battle cry with which MPS was established is more relevant now than ever.
India is a melting pot of diverse cultures, languages, traditions, and institutions, and the MPS meeting has been crafted to reflect this diversity. The meeting will encompass various themes, formats, and activities, promising an exciting and enriching experience.
New Delhi is a very vibrant capital of India and has a rich heritage over centuries of rule by different empires. Humayun Tomb, just to highlight one of the many monuments in Delhi, is as highly regarded as the Taj Mahal. Yes, Taj Mahal is a day trip from Delhi. The grand palaces of Jaipur and Rajasthan are easily accessible. And the beauty and majesty of Himalayas is not to be missed.
On behalf of the Program and Organizing Committees, and our colleagues at the host organisation Centre for Civil Society, we look forward to welcoming you and your guests to an intellectual and emotional journey of India.
